1. Transformer Oil Treatment

The RSM mobile oil regeneration system has been specifically designed for on-site use to regenerate insulating mineral oil in energized or de-energized transformers, as well as on a tank to tank basis. The system uses a special blend of Activated Media (E-Porelite 200) contained in specially designed columns and the oil is directed through the columns by forced percolation. With the use of these columns, the system is able to effectively remove contaminants such as acids and sludge from the oil as well as rectifying the color. Oxidation stability is restored by injecting inhibitor in the oil. In addition to the regenerating capabilities, the system incorporates a heater, degasifier and a set of particulate removing filters resulting in the complete degasification, dehydration and filtration of the oil. Optional heavy-duty heater is provided for desludging of the transformer. The system is able to consistently regenerate the used and deteriorated transformer oil to a specification that surpasses all ASTM and IEEE specifications/standards.

One of the many unique features of the system is its ability to reactivate the same clay up to 300 times before the clay is exhausted and disposed of as non-hazardous substance. During the circulation of a nominal quantity of deteriorated oil, the clay beds become progressively saturated and their efficiency drops off to the point that justifies the reactivation of the clay. The reactivation process is fully automated and enables the system to process oil again and again using the same clay. Since the clay can be re-used, we are able to offer a high grade of Activated Media that allows for the oil to be regenerated to a specification that cannot be consistently matched by any conventional Fuller’s Earth system. In addition it has been recognized that after the initial reactivation of the clay, the clay’s adsorptive capacity is enhanced and provides better results than virgin Fuller’s Earth. In essence, the system avoids all complications, costs and performance issues associated with typical oil processing units.

In order to ensure a high degree of control and reliability, the system is controlled by a programmable logic controller and monitored/interfaced by a computerized supervisory system, which monitors and records all vital operating parameters. All of the RSM oil regeneration systems come equipped with an operator’s control room that houses the computer supervisory system. The system is installed in either a semi-trailer (Option T -Varied Length available), or in a 20 or 40 ft sea freight container (Option 20 or 40).

Purification of Electrical Insulating Liquids

Today's state-of-the-art electrical equipment requires the need for a high degree of insulating fluid purification. Such requirements call for the removal of moisture, gases, solid particulate matter and traces of chemical contamination from the insulating fluid.
Moisture content is recognized as one of the main causes of variation in the electrical properties of insulating materials, both from a chemical and physical point of view. Even in small amounts, moisture can accelerate the aging process.
Under these circumstances, it is important to start initially at the factory with a dry insulation system and pure, dry and degasified dielectric liquid during transformer impregnation and the qualification tests. Later, the same care must be taken during installation in the field and after every maintenance check, requiring exposure of the insulating system to the environment.
The process upgrades new insulating liquids and reclaims used dielectric oils through filtration, vacuum dehydration, degasification and clay treatment (when necessary). High Vacuum systems include filters with a 0.5-1.0 micron nominal filtration rating for the removal of particulate. The High Vacuum process causes the dissolved water to be vaporized through the vacuum pump exhaust along with any other gases from the oil. The Activated Media provide corrective treatment for removal of the products of oxidation, dissolved varnish and gums and other traces of chemical contaminants. The systems with high vacuum pumps provide fast and complete transformer dry-out and fill with clean, dry and hot oil under vacuum conditions. The Interstage Oil Condensers provide a system for removal of light-end oils for vacuum system protection during transformer dry-out processes.

2. Waste Oil Recovering Systems

The Systems provide all the necessarily components to properly reclaim and purify oil by removing all types of contaminants which are formed or introduced into the oils, thus maintaining new oil specifications.

3. Purification of Hydraulic, Turbine, and Lubricating Oils

Low-Vacuum Oil Purifiers (VSL) for removal of water, gases and particulate from hydraulic oils, turbine oils and many other types of lubricating fluids. We have standard units from 300 LPH to 9000 LPH.

4. SF6 Purification and Recovery Systems

Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) is an excellent dielectric gas for high voltage power applications. It has been used extensively in high voltage circuit breakers and other switchgear employed by the power industry. Applications for SF6 include gas insulated transmission lines and gas insulated power distribution substations. The combined electrical, physical, chemical and thermal properties offer many advantages when used in power switchgear. Some of the outstanding properties of SF6 which make its use in power applications desirable are:

high dielectric strength

unique arc-quenching ability

excellent thermal stability

good thermal conductivity

However advantageous the above properties are, Sulfur Hexafluoride is considered to be a fully fluorinated compound (FFC). Since FFC’s have atmospheric lifetimes of up to 50,000 years, these potent greenhouse gases could contribute significantly and, essentially, permanently to global warming if emissions continue to grow. For example, lets compare the global warming potential of CO2 and SF6. CO2 has a global warming potential of 1, whereas SF6 has a global warming potential of 24,900! Also, over the past years, the price of new SF6 gas has increased in price by as much as 600%!! Due to the above reasons, SF6 is used mostly in applications that allow reclamation as opposed to using it on equipment that requires release of the gas, only to be re-filled with virgin SF6.

5. Fuller's Earth and Activated Alumina Filters

Fuller's Earth and Activated Alumina filters are available for use with small or large Fuller's Earth applications. Systems can be used in conjunction with the Vacuum Oil Purifiers above or be outfitted with their own pump and heaters (if required). Traditional systems (Fuller's Earth) have a high flowrate for a relatively small footprint of the equipment, but they produce a considerable amount of waste (depleted Fuller's Earth soaked with oil). Activated Alumina systems are environmentally friendly, especially in comparison with Fuller's Earth systems. The required footprint for the same plant capacity is bigger, but the very small amount of waste produced per cycle (~0.5 to 1%) justifies the choice. And at the end of its useful life (typically 300 reactivation cycles), the Activated Alumina can be disposed of in landfills. It is classified as NON HAZARDOUS WASTE.

7. Filter Housings

Filtration Housings are available to suit many types of filter elements including particulate filters, filter/separators and bag filters. We can build you our standard design housings or we also build custom vessels to your specifications or drawings. We also are approved for field repair and alterations.
